iShrimp

Shrimp farming, Vietnam

The operating system for a shrimp farm

iShrimp puts the whole farming cycle on record: every crop, every pond, every feeding and water reading. We run it on our own farm first, to show that a disciplined, measured operation loses fewer crops.

  • 2024farm, first app and oxygenation work under way
  • 21global farm systems benchmarked
  • 211features mapped across 16 modules
  • R1clickable prototype, three core flows

Shrimp crops fail for reasons nobody wrote down

Shrimp farming in Vietnam is fragmented. It runs on manual labour and on what the pond owner remembers. Elsewhere the same work has been industrialized, with sensors in the water and a record for every step.

Knowledge lives in one head

Feeding amounts, water treatment and timing depend on the owner's experience. When that person is away, the pond is at risk.

Oxygen drops at night

Low dissolved oxygen (DO) can kill a pond in hours. Without a sensor and an alert, the first sign is often dead shrimp at dawn.

No record, no proof

A farm that cannot show how each crop was run cannot show a lender or an investor why the next crop is a safer bet.

One record per crop, per pond

The centre of iShrimp is the crop in a pond. Everything a worker does and everything a sensor reads attaches to it.

Daily pond log

Feeding, water treatment, sampling and losses, entered at the pond side on a phone in a few taps.

Pond sensors

DO, pH, paddlewheel status and water flow, read through a gateway. Each chart states where the number came from: sensor, manual entry or API.

Alerts that reach a person

When oxygen falls, the alert goes to whoever is on duty and escalates until someone confirms it.

Stage-by-stage reports

Shrimp count at stocking, end of nursery and harvest, with FCR and cost per kilogram. The main measure of success is how many shrimp reach harvest.

Who uses it: the farm owner, the farm manager, pond-side technicians and workers. Later, investors with read-only access and customers trialling our oxygenation equipment.

How we build with Claude

We are a small team. Claude does the work a research and product team would otherwise need several people for.

In use today

Claude Code runs our product pipeline

  • Screen-by-screen audit of our existing farm app.
  • Desk research on global farm systems, with every claim checked against its source. Of 263 claims checked, 199 matched, 15 were off, 39 pages could not be opened and 10 had no link.
  • Feature tree, information architecture, flows and wireframes.
  • The clickable prototype.
Planned

Claude API inside the product

  • Turn a worker's short Vietnamese note into a structured pond log entry.
  • A plain-language daily summary for the owner: what happened in each pond and what needs attention.
  • Explain an alert in context, using the pond's own history.

Timeline

The farm came first. The software follows what the farm needs.

  1. Farm, first app, oxygenation equipment

The farm is raising shrimp. A first version of the iShrimp app is in use for crop, feeding, water treatment, stock and equipment records. Work on oxygenation equipment is under way.

  2. Audit of the existing app

We document the running app screen by screen and set up a structured product process: discovery, research, design, build.

  3. New goal, global benchmark, prototype

iShrimp becomes the operating system for our own farm. We benchmark 21 global farm systems, compare 22 business models, write 15 product dossiers and map 211 features across 16 modules. Prototype R1 covers quick logging, the oxygen alert, and harvest and crop close.

Where we stand: research and design. The current environment is a test environment with no live sensors yet. We are self-funded and have no outside investors.
